Product and inhaler differences matter
“Albuterol inhaler” can refer to more than one marketed product. Even when two inhalers contain albuterol sulfate, the device, formulation details, package labeling, and handling instructions may differ.
When researching an inhaler, check:
- active ingredient: albuterol sulfate;
- dosage form: metered-dose inhalation aerosol;
- delivered strength shown on the label;
- brand or generic identity;
- device and package instructions;
- NDC, labeler, and manufacturer;
- dose counter and priming/cleaning instructions for the exact device.
Do not assume that every generic inhaler has an identical actuator, feel, or set of device instructions simply because the active ingredient is the same.
Price and access research
Out-of-pocket cost may depend on brand versus generic status, the specific inhaler and NDC, insurance formulary placement, network pharmacy, deductible, copay or coinsurance, and available package options.
