Disulfiram 250 mg and 500 mg Tablets
Disulfiram is a prescription medication used as an aid in the management of selected patients with alcohol dependence as part of a broader treatment program. U.S. labeling includes 250 mg and 500 mg oral tablets.
Generic disulfiram and Antabuse
Disulfiram is the generic drug name. Antabuse is the historic brand name most strongly associated with the medication. Historic Antabuse labeling remains available in DailyMed, but that history should not be treated as proof that an Antabuse-branded package is currently available.
Current product research is better done by checking the generic name, strength, NDC, labeler or manufacturer, and package shown in the current drug record. DailyMed continues to list prescription generic disulfiram products, including records that contain both 250 mg and 500 mg tablets.
250 mg vs. 500 mg
The two strengths contain the same active ingredient but are separate prescription product strengths. A higher tablet strength is not a reason to change a prescribed regimen on your own.
Product details can differ by labeler or manufacturer. Current DailyMed listings include, for example, generic disulfiram records from Sigmapharm Laboratories and other labelers. Depending on the product, the tablet imprint, inactive ingredients, NDC, and package count can differ.
When comparing products, match:
- disulfiram as the active ingredient;
- 250 mg or 500 mg as prescribed;
- tablet dosage form;
- NDC and package size;
- current labeler/manufacturer information.
Important alcohol interaction
Disulfiram causes sensitivity to alcohol. FDA-regulated labeling warns that alcohol exposure while taking disulfiram can trigger a potentially serious reaction. Alcohol can also be present in products other than beverages.
Because of that interaction and other contraindications and warnings, disulfiram should be used under appropriate medical supervision. This page is for product research, not for selecting a starting dose or changing treatment.
Price and access considerations
Disulfiram is a prescription drug in the United States. Price and out-of-pocket cost can vary with the strength, quantity, manufacturer or labeler, pharmacy, insurance coverage, network status, deductible, and copay.
For an accurate comparison, use the same strength and quantity across quotes. If a particular manufacturer or NDC matters, confirm it before pickup because generic supply can change.
The legacy /purchase/ URL does not establish that Newberry Express Pharmacy currently stocks or sells a specific disulfiram product.
